Yukon Police on Monday arrested four individuals suspected of committing a string of automobile burglaries across the city.

Maj. Matt Fairchild said Tuesday the four – two of whom were identified as juveniles – were arrested after officers received a tip concerning auto burglaries in the Ranchwood North subdivision. Investigators believe at least 27 vehicles – and perhaps several more – were hit by the four burglars.

“We know that 27 could be a significantly higher number – we have some people who don’t report the burglary and some who know someone’s been into their car but don’t find anything missing,” the major said.

All of the vehicles burglarized were left unlocked, Fairchild said.

Most of the vehicles hit were parked in the Ranchwood North area and surrounding apartment complexes, as well as an area near downtown on the south side of Main Street.

The individuals were not identified as of press time Tuesday. The department cannot by law give any details about the two juveniles arrested in connection with the alleged burglaries.

This is a developing story. See Saturday’s edition of the Progress for more details and police advice on how to avoid being a victim of an automobile burglary.
