Registered voters across Yukon Public School District are eligible to cast a ballot in Tuesday’s Board of Education election, which will determine who will represent Office No. 2.
Incumbent Leonard Wells will face challenger Paul Gerber in the April 5 contest. The school board seat is the only one on Tuesday’s ballot.
THE CANDIDATES
Wells, 74, was first elected in 2012 and has been on the board for a decade and currently serves as its vice president. He is a 1965 graduate of Yukon High School and graduated from University of

Central Oklahoma with a bachelor’s degree in accounting in 1969; he worked for 34 years in the telecommunications industry and still provides some accounting services.
Gerber is a chemical engineer originally from Baltimore, Maryland. The 52-year-old graduated from University of Oklahoma in 2005. He cited a “disconnect” between the school board and parents for his decision to run for the Office No. 2 seat.
PRECINCTS OPEN 7 A.M. TO 7 P.M. TUESDAY
Polls will be open from 7 a.m. until 7 p.m. and anyone who is in line to vote at 7 p.m. will be allowed to cast a ballot, Canadian County Election Board Secretary Wanda Armold said. Voters who wished to participate in early voting at the election board office did so Thursday and Friday, March 31 and April 1.

Because districts are relying on 2010 census numbers, any registered voter living within YPS boundaries – not just those living inside the area covered by Office No. 2 – may participate in Tuesday’s election, board personnel confirmed Friday.
