Name
Sara Johnson
Position
Deputy City Clerk
Years with city
Five years in November

What led you to work with the city?
I was going through some personal things and I had to get a job. I started off in dispatch. I always loved the idea of doing dispatch and trying to multitask like that. I applied and I got the job. I did dispatch for almost three years and then I got this job. Personal issues led me to go from a stay-at-home mom to a professional.
Describe your duties
It goes from writing the council agendas, to insurance to tort claims filed against the city. There are some times I need to go help purchasing if they need help. Anything Doug (Shivers, City Clerk) asks me to do, I do.

What do you enjoy doing outside of work?
I enjoy hanging out with my kids. I know that is a typical response. But I like hanging out with my kids. They do softball, gymnastics and piano. So I am always doing that. I like to garden. We have had a garden for two years now. It’s a lot of fun. I used to work out, I am trying to get back into that. Just relax, honestly. I work five days a week so on my two days off, I like to chill and not stress about anything.
What is your favorite part of working with the City of Yukon?
Every day is different. There will be days where you do insurance stuff and the next day you don’t. Every day is different; the people are nice. I like working here.
What are your professional goals?
I just started my master’s degree with Columbia Southern University. We have a partnership with them. It will be in organizational leadership. When there is an opening just move up to where I can help and be of service.
