Canadian County’s premier therapeutic horseback riding program plans to “make some hay” this week … on Yukon’s Route 66.
Savannah Station is among four local non-profits participating in Thursday’s fourth annual “Cruise-In for a Cause” in downtown Yukon.
Presented by Yukon 66 Main Street, this passive leisure, open cruise will feature a wide array of vehicles cruising “under the lights of Main.”
Savannah Station wanted to be part of Cruise-In for a Cause to help further “spread the word about who we are and what we do,” executive director Andi Holland explained.
Their cruise slogan is “Hay for Horses.”
At Savannah Station’s cruise booth, attendees will enjoy playing cornhole while trying their hand at roping.
The other three help causes – Yukon Mobile Meals, Canadian County CASA and Youth & Family Services – also will provide fun activities and have product drives during Thursday’s big event.
Savannah Station Therapeutic Riding Program (TRP) serves people ages four and above with special needs.
Each rider participates in weekly group lessons, where the horse helps them develop their balance, core strength, confidence, and social skills.
Savannah Station provides its services for free, so volunteer support is critical.
“Our volunteers are the ‘engine’ that allows us to have lessons,” Holland said. “Every rider starts out with three volunteers helping them.”
HERE WE GROW
Savannah Station began in 2013 as a “mobile” program at three barns, later leasing a facility from Redlands Community College.
In early 2021, Savannah Station moved to its new home at 13420 Frisco Road in northwest Yukon.
“We were blessed by God to be given this beautiful, amazing 20-acre facility,” Holland added. “This has always been God’s program. I truly believe He opened the doors for this beautiful place to be ours.
“Moving here allowed us to expand exponentially.”
Riders have increased from 34 to 60 and volunteers from 60 to 135. They also have more horses and instructors than ever.

At Thursday’s Yukon Main Street cruise, attendees are asked to give to the four help causes at their advocacy booths and at donation stations on the event grounds. A portion of Park and Show registration fees also benefit the non-profit causes.
When they’re not riding, Cruise-In for a Cause attendees will stroll through the Park and Show area (400 block of W Main), visit cause and sponsor booths, check out fun activities along the way, and enjoy a constant parade of cool rides.
Thursday’s event is open to all vehicles – from classics and hot rods to vintage and newer model vehicles.
