Carol L. (Peterson, Courtney) Watson passed away Nov. 21, 2022, in Yukon, Oklahoma. She was 85 years old.
Carol held many jobs over the years, but her two favorites were being the librarian at a local elementary school and working to support caregivers at a local hospice. Other jobs she held were a hotel switchboard operator, a statistical typist for the vice president of General Telephone in New York and bookkeeper for many Oklahoma businesses.
She married Harold Courtney in 1969 and they adopted their beautiful son Jeff in 1971. The family were avid RVers and spent many weekends and vacations in state and national parks, where they enjoyed camping, boating, water skiing and fishing. She often reminisced about their trips, the friends they made and the many fish fries they had after a full day on the water. Her biggest joy was when her grandson, Andrew, was born to Jeff and his wife Mary. Carol and Harold were married 30 wonderful years until Harold’s passing in 1999.
Carol met her second husband, Ronald Watson, in 2002. After a whirlwind romance, they were married in 2003. She always said that “Ron brought a smile to her face because he always had a smile on his.” With this marriage she gained a welcoming family of adult children and grandchildren. She and Ron renovated a mountain home in Ione, Washington, and shared their orchard with deer, wild turkey, cougar and large bear. Sadly, Ron passed in 2009.
Carol is preceded in death by both of her devoted husbands and one brother, Royden Peterson.
She is survived by son Jeff, daughter-in-law Mary and grandson Andrew Courtney; son James Watson; and daughter Therese Watson. Her memory will live on in the hearts of her “heart adopted” family – Jerry and Elizabeth Julum; grandchildren, Emily Odom and Samuel Julum, and great-grandchildren, Eli Winston-Julum and Murphy Odom; as well as many nieces, nephews, grandchildren and great-grandchildren on both the Peterson/Courtney and Watson sides of the family.
A rosary will be held at 10:15 a.m., followed by Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 1, 2022, at St. John Nepomuk Catholic Church in Yukon, Oklahoma. Interment will be held at the Yukon Cemetery, followed by a meal at the church in Marian Hall.
In lieu of flowers, we ask that you consider a donation in Carol’s name to Catholic Charities Sanctuary for Women or Sister BJ’s Pantry in Oklahoma City.
