A Yukon student was a special guest attendee at Gov. Kevin Stitt’s recent second inauguration.

Van Wootton, 10, was invited by District 43 State Rep. Jay Steagall (R-Yukon).

Van is a fifth grader at Independence Intermediate School.

The 2023 inauguration of Gov. Kevin Stitt and all statewide elected officers was Jan. 9 at the Oklahoma State Capitol in Oklahoma City.

Van also visited with Gov. Stitt in January 2020 during a scheduled “meet and greet” at the governor’s office inside the State Capitol. At that time, he attended Parkland Elementary School.

Van is the son of Yukon’s Jeff and Micheal Ann Wootton. His father is Yukon’s vice mayor on the city council and a Yukon school teacher.

Stitt was elected in November 2022 to serve a second, four-year term as Oklahoma’s governor. He defeated former State Superintendent of Public Instruction Joy Hofmeister.

Stitt is Oklahoma’s 28th governor, having served since January 2019.

Rep. Steagall was elected last year to his third, two-year term in the 101-member Oklahoma House of Representatives. He represents the 73099 and 73127 zip codes in Canadian County.

Steagall chairs the State Powers Committee.
