No student was hurt when a Yukon school bus crashed into a moped this week.

The two-vehicle traffic collision occurred about 3:20 p.m. Monday, Feb. 13 on N.W. 10th and Cherry Lane. The site is just east of Sara Road in northwest Oklahoma City.

“There were five students on the bus,” said Kayla Agnitsch, public information officer for Yukon Public Schools. “None of them were injured.

“All their parents were contacted, and their parents came and got them.”

The yellow school bus was taking the students to their homes in Sun Valley Acres after the school day ended.

While the children were unharmed, the moped driver and a passenger were injured in Monday afternoon’s crash.

Oklahoma City Police investigated the traffic collision, which occurred east of Yukon.

The 2018 Blue Bird school bus was traveling east on N.W. 10th approaching Cherry Lane and the 2010 Honda Elite moped was stopped preparing to turn north.

The Yukon school bus driver “said she looked down for just a moment and when she looked back up, she hit the moped that was stopped in the street,” according to a traffic collision report signed by officer Brandon Lee.

Both occupants were knocked off the moped and had “numerous abrasions” on their arms, legs and head, the police report reads.

CHECKED AT HOSPITAL

The male driver and female passenger were taken by EMSA ambulance to OU Medical Center to be checked out.

The passenger was unresponsive at the scene but was responsive at the hospital, according to the report.

The investigating officer indicated the school bus driver “followed too closely” as a contributing factor.

No citations were issued.

The Yukon school bus was functional and removed from the scene by the driver, the traffic collision report shows.

The moped sustained disabling damage and was removed by a wrecker.
