A veteran educator is “returning home” to the Yukon school district where he previously taught and coached.

Adam Jewell has been named as Yukon Public Schools’ executive director of secondary education.

Jewell is no stranger to Yukon, having been a U.S. History teacher in the school district from August 2005 through December 2013.

“I am so blessed to have the opportunity to come back home to Yukon Public Schools,” Jewell said. “I taught and coached at Yukon High School for 8-1/2 wonderful years.

“I am excited about helping to grow our great leaders in the second schools and look forward to learning from them as well.”

The YPS Board of Education approved Jewell’s hiring during an April 19th special meeting.

“Yukon Public Schools is home to great students, great teachers and great administrators, and I look forward to rejoining the district,” said Jewell, who assumes his new role June 1.

ADMINISTRATION EXPERIENCE

Jewell has nearly nine years of administration experience with Oklahoma City Public Schools, serving as principal at Capitol Hill High School.

He was named the South OKC Chamber of Commerce’s “Principal of the Year” in 2018.

Jewell also was an assistant principal at Capitol Hill and Edmond North High School after leaving Yukon.

Jewell has a Master of Education Administration from Southwestern Oklahoma State University in Weatherford and a Bachelor of Science in Education from Oklahoma State University in Stillwater.

He began his education career as a teacher/coach at Putnam City North High School.

His brother David is principal at Piedmont High School.

Jewell succeeds Diana Lebsack as YPS executive director of secondary education.

Lebsack has been promoted to YPS assistant superintendent. She replaces Dr. Jason Brunk, who recently was named the new human resources director at Francis Tuttle Technology Center.
