An upcoming community benefit in Yukon will benefit five Oklahoma animal rescue groups.

The inaugural “Pup-Purr-Azzi” Carnival is set 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, June 24 at the Pets & People Dog Park, 701 Inla. The special event is sponsored by Think Solar OKC.

The Pup-Purr-Azzi Carnival will raise funds to support Miller’s Cause, Pets & People Humane Society, Safe Haven Animal Rescue, Street Dog Rescue & Recovery, and Tornado Alley Bulldog Rescue.

“We have five animal rescues working together on this,” said Peggy Nichols, who chairs the four-member Pup-Purr-Azzi Carnival committee. “All rescues have been struggling the last several years since the COVID pandemic in 2020.

“Other rescues would have liked to have joined us for this first annual carnival, but they’re short-staffed. I’ll be inviting rescues again next year.”

Attendees will have a dog-gone good time participating in a myriad of festivities.

Highlights will be up to 30 carnival games with prizes, a bouncy house for the kids and a petting zoo.

“We will have about 25 vendors who cater to adults, children and animals,” Nichols shared. “Some of the vendors will even have games for dogs.”

Pets on leashes are welcome.

The crowd will enjoy everything from a tattoo parlor and photo booth to bean bag toss and dunk pond games.

Three food trucks catering to children will be on-site – offering taste-tempting treats like hamburgers, hot dogs, nachos, tacos, and snow cones.

“This is not an adoption event, but there could be dogs for adoption walking around,” Nichols said.

FUN CLOSE TO HOME

The June 24th animal rescue carnival is an ideal attraction for local families who are planning staycations this summer.

“A lot of people aren’t traveling, and our Pup-Purr-Azzi is a way their kids can have fun for a day here in their local area,” Nichols pointed out.

The Pup-Purr-Azzi Carnival’s venue is Yukon’s three-acre dog park, available for public use just west of the Yukon animal control facility.

Nichols is a longtime Pets & People Humane Society volunteer and board member. She helped start the wildly successful annual “Pawsitively Pampered” Dog Wash & Grooming Event, which raises more than $10,000 annually for Pets & People.

There is no entry fee to the June 24th Pup-Purr-Azzi Carnival.

Tickets to play the carnival games are $1 each, $10 for 15 or $25 for 20.

All proceeds raised from the carnival and vendor booths will be divided evenly among the five participating animal rescue groups.

“We hope to see this event grow every year, just like our Pawsitively Pampered Dog Wash we have every September,” Nichols concluded.
