Friday Fun Days’ kids fishing derby is in the books – and it was a beautiful day for fishing!
The 50th Annual Little Angler Fishing Derby on June 16 had a large turnout of both children and fish this year at Mulvey Pond in Yukon City Park.
Eighty-five children and their adults caught more than 165 fish.
Species included Sunfish, Bass and Catfish.
Young anglers provided their own fishing rods and tackle.
Children could also visit the Oklahoma Wildlife Department and the National Parks Service booths to learn more about the outdoors.
The fun started at 8 a.m. and lasted until after 11 a.m.
The previous night’s rain put a little damper on the early turnout, but by 10 a.m. or so, fisher kids were scattered along the shoreline with poles in the water.

At 11:30 a.m., the awards were handed out and were as follows:
Largest Fish
1) Keara Bradley – 3 lbs, 17 inches
2) Mason Rearman – 2 lbs, 18 inches
3) Tristan Martinez – 1.56 lbs, 17 inches
Smallest Fish
1) Aiden Columbus – .07 lbs, 5.25 inches
2) E. Holden – .08 lbs, 4.5 inches
3) Blayke Smith – .25 lbs, 3.5 inches

1) Caleb Moreland – 18 fish
2) Rogan Hall – 6 fish
