A Canadian County Sheriff’s deputy has been fired after being arrested on complaints of sexual assault for allegedly assaulting a female inmate he was driving from Bryan County to Canadian County.
Sheriff Chris West said when he learned of the allegations he requested the Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation to take charge of the matter. That was on July 25.
Deputy Wesley Wayne Hunter Jr. is alleged to have assaulted the inmate on July 20 while en route from Bryan County to Canadian County.
The inmate was being brought to Canadian County for an outstanding warrant.
Investigators determined that during the transport, Hunter stopped in a remote location and sexually assaulted the female passenger.
OSBI special agents were able to locate evidence indicating the assault occurred near State Highway 70 and Antioch Road, in Marshall County. Based on the information gathered, Hunter was arrested and booked into the Marshall County Jail on a complaint of second-degree rape.
Hunter is no longer employed by the Canadian County Sheriff’s Office. He was hired in November 2022.
