Yukon and Westmoore football fans will need to allow extra time to get into Miller Stadium tonight as new weapon detectors will be in place, a Yukon Public Schools’ official said.
Yukon plays Westmoore in their football home opener. Kickoff is at 7 p.m. at Miller Stadium, 1777 S Yukon Parkway.
Extra security officers are expected in light of a recent shooting during a game in Choctaw that left a high school student dead.
“We will be piloting a weapon detection system tonight,” YPS public information officer Kayla Agnitsch said in an email Friday morning.
The system detects the shape and mass of items used as a weapon.
Canadian County Sheriff’s deputies, Yukon Police and other law officers are expected to provide security at the game. Oklahoma City schools have also implemented the weapons detection system for fans to walk through.
