Veterans and their families are invited to the Yukon High School’s annual Military Appreciation Game.

Festivities are planned for this Friday night’s Yukon Millers’ football game at Miller Stadium, 1777 S Yukon Parkway. Pre-game activities start at 6:15 p.m. before kickoff.

United States’ veterans of all armed services will be admitted free with their military IDs. They will receive free concessions for the game.

“We will have a special recognition of all veterans,” event co-organizer Wes McAtee said.

Yukon Public Schools’ Athletic Director Brian Hinson and Assistant Athletic Director Michelle Ankrom are helping organize the Sept. 8th YHS Military Appreciation Game.

“We have done this event for the past 15 years,” said McAtee, YPS’ Yukon Fine Arts Center director. “We feel that the freedom we enjoy is because of the selfless service of our brave men and women that serve in the military.

“We want them to know their service will never be forgotten.”

PATRIOT GUARD

The Patriot Guard Riders will ride into the stadium with flags flying. They will deliver the game ball to a veteran, whose biography will be read.

The veteran will then present the game ball to the referees and team captains and participate in the coin toss.

“The football players will enter the field carrying military branch and American flags during their run on to the field,” McAtee said.

“During the game there will be sound bites honoring military achievements.”

Friday’s YHS Military Appreciation Game ceremony will feature a military honor guard and flyover coordinated by Sgt. Gerald Romo of the U.S. Air Force. Romo also will provide free merchandise and recruitment information.
