Robert Lawton Major


Robert Lawton Major passed away at the age of 85 on Wednesday, November 15th, in Yukon, Okla. with his family present.

Robert Major, who went by Bob, was born in Akron, Ohio on June 12th, 1938. Bob married Marty Carner on March 25th, 1962, and they had two sons, Robert Lawton II and Michael Maynard.

Bob was a pilot in the United States Air Force for 20 years and served in the Vietnam War, earning many medals for his service. He retired from the Air Force with the rank of Major in 1980. He then worked as a pilot for an independent oil company for five years. After retiring as a pilot, Bob worked quality assurance for the Civil Engineering Department at Vance Air Force Base for 25 years.

Upon his retirement, Bob and Marty moved to Yukon to be closer to family. Bob was a member of the Masonic Lodge 80 in Enid, Okla. He was an Elder at Chisholm Trail Presbyterian Church for 10 years.

Bob enjoyed camping and staying in an RV with his family. He was a huge Pittsburgh Steelers and Pirates fan. Bob valued his family above all else.

Bob is survived by his wife Marty; sons, Rob and his wife Lisa and Mike and his wife Kim; grandchildren, Robert Lawton III (Trey) and his wife Sharon, Jacob and his wife Elizabeth (Lizzie), and Victoria; great grandchildren, Madelyn, Emma, Lillian, Layla, and Melody; his dog Duke, as well as several nieces, nephews, and close relatives.

A Memorial Service will be held at Chisholm Trail Presbyterian Church in Yukon on Saturday, November 25th, 2023, at 11 a.m. Lunch will be provided for everyone following the service.
