Margaret Chisholm Tulp

634

Margaret Chisholm Tulp, age 94, was born March 31, 1926 in New York City to Hannah and Charles Chisholm, immigrants from Scotland. She passed away Saturday, October 24, 2020 in Yukon, Oklahoma.

Margaret graduated from Hunter College High School in New York City but completed her formal education at the University of Central Oklahoma in Edmond. Her marriage to John Tulp occurred in 1947, and together they lived in various places before settling in Oklahoma in 1963 to raise their four children.

After completing her degree requirements, Margaret began a career in education. She taught for several years at the elementary school level and went on to devote the remainder of her career as an instructor of English and Humanities at Redlands Community College in El Reno. She retired from teaching in 1987.

In her retirement years, Margaret involved herself in community affairs, volunteer works, and club activities. Her hobbies of reading, creative writing, swimming, line dancing, and travel in the United States, Great Britain, China, the Canadian Providences and many countries in Europe kept her busy and young, in mind, body, and spirit.

Margaret’s greatest accomplishments were raising and educating her four children, impacting the educational development of her many students, and contributing to the advancement of the Yukon Historical Society. She was especially proud of editing several biographies of local Yukon settlers she met through the Yukon Historical Society.

Margaret is preceded in death by her husband John, her parents, her brother, Charles D. Chisholm, her sister, Jean Jones, and her daughter, Margaret Johnstone Tulp. Margaret is survived by her daughter, Laura Edwards of Menlo Park, California, and her sons, John Peter Tulp of Yukon, Oklahoma and William C. Tulp of Dallas, Texas, grand-daughter Julia Ruark of Seattle, Washington, and great-grandson Theodore Ruark.
