Several blocks of downtown Yukon were closed last Friday night for the filming of a scene in an upcoming epic disaster film.

Yukon’s Main Street, between 3rd and 6th streets, was shut down after dark Dec. 8 as a second unit crew filmed a driving shot for the movie “Twisters.”

The movie’s cast and director were not present, according to unit publicist Amanda J. Brand.

No interviews or photos of the filming were permitted due to Universal Pictures’ “closed-set” policy and non-disclosure agreements.

Yukon Main Street business owner Angie McPherson hopes last Friday’s filming will showcase “our beautiful” Main Street and downtown area on the “big screen.”

“Just by bringing their movie crew to Yukon, they were able to experience our great city and see what we have to offer,” said McPherson, incoming president of the Yukon 66 Main Street board.

The City of Yukon informed motorists about the Main Street closing, originally set from 6 p.m. to midnight, in this Dec. 8th social media post:

“We have been informed that crews are attempting to hold off closing the entire road until closer to 8 pm, but please allow extra time for your evening commute. Traffic will be detoured to Vandament Ave.”

The Twisters film crew arrived in downtown Yukon by bus shortly after 8 p.m. to perform their work along Route 66.

Yukon police officers provided security to keep anyone from crossing through “Road Closed” barricades and interfering with the filming.
