With the police investigation officially closed, a motive remains unclear after an eastern Canadian County man went through his home early this week killing three of his children after shooting his wife to death.

Sometime last Sunday night, 42-year-old Jonathon Candy became involved in an altercation with his 39-year-old wife Lindsay inside their Mirage Street residence near S.W. 29th and Czech Hall Road.

The two-story house is in Oklahoma City limits four miles south of Yukon inside the Mustang school district.

An Oklahoma City Police spokesman said Jonathon Candy armed himself with a gun and shot Lindsay multiple times, killing her.

Jonathon Candy then systematically went through the house killing their three children – Dylan Candy, 18; Ethan Candy, 14; and Lucas Candy, 12. Dylan was a Mustang High School graduate while Ethan and Lucas were current Mustang Public Schools’ students.

“Make no mistake about it, what happened in that residence was nothing short of a massacre,” Oklahoma City Police MSgt. Gary Knight said. “Those children were hunted down and killed after the woman was killed.”

The sole survivor was the Candy’s 10-year-old son, who apparently was asleep during his father’s shooting spree. He was not hurt.

After waking to find his immediate family shot to death, the boy called 911 at about 9:35 a.m. Monday.

Oklahoma City Police had no history of domestic abuse reports from the 2804 Mirage Street address.

Jonathon Candy’s cousin sent a statement to Oklahoma City news media that describes the entire family being left “shattered and confused” by this tragedy.

“It’s going to be a long healing process for everyone involved,” the statement reads.

Members of the Candy family were regular customers at Just Baked Bakery & Deli, 336 S Mustang Road. The business posted this on social media after the shooting incident:

“As many others have expressed, our hearts are broken this morning after the confirmation of the tragedy that occurred in our community. We grew to know and love the Candy family as some of our most loyal customers who became friends. We are praying big prayers for all of their family, friends, classmates, teammates, teachers and others who are now heartbroken and living in this tragedy.

“Hug your loved ones tight, pray for your family and for others, and check on those you love.”
