Adam Shriver took his seat Tuesday night as the newest member of the City of Yukon’s governing body.

Shriver was elected without opposition as the new Ward 4 representative on the five-member Yukon City Council. He earned a four-year term.

Shriver succeeds David Enmark, who was appointed to serve the last 7-1/2 months of an unexpired term after Aric Gilliland’s resignation.

A small business owner, Shriver took the oath of office during a brief ceremony to start the May 7th city council meeting.

Yukon Municipal Judge Jennifer King administered the oath before an audience that included Shriver’s family and friends inside the Centennial Building, 12 S 5th.

“I’d like to express my gratitude to my family and friends for coming out tonight and watch me swear in,” Shriver said. “The support means a lot to me as we embark on a whole new journey of serving the community.”

Ready to roll up his sleeves and get to work for Yukon’s residents and businesses, the new Ward 4 council member said he’s passionate about transparency and accountability in local government.

“I will work to make sure our community feels empowered to be part of the decision-making process, building trust and collaboration,” Shriver said after announcing his Ward 4 candidacy.

“I’m committed to using taxpayer dollars responsibly and efficiently. I will focus on spending wisely to benefit our community, making sure each dollar has the most impact.”

Shriver believes the city council must focus on – and deal with – major issues like updating aging infrastructure and city buildings while reducing Yukon’s reliance on Oklahoma City for water.

Shriver joined a Yukon City Council on May 7 that included Jeff Wootton (At-Large), Rodney Zimmerman (Ward 1), Shelli Selby (Ward 2), and Donna Yanda (Ward 3).

It marked Yanda’s last meeting after more than 10 years of service. She will be replaced by Brian Pillmore, who won this year’s Ward 3 election.

Pillmore was out of town and did not attend this Tuesday night’s meeting.

Pillmore will be sworn in at 11:30 a.m. next Tuesday, May 14 at Yukon City Hall, 500 W Main. Judge King will administer the oath of office.
