EL RENO – It might not have the same box-office success as the 1979 prison break film “Escape From Alcatraz” starring Clint Eastwood, Patrick McGoohan and Fred Ward, but Yukon recently hosted its own thrilling premiere:
“Escape By Alcaraz.”
And it was all caught on tape – police officer body cam footage, to be precise.
Oklahoma City’s Alain Alcaraz, age 40, was charged Dec. 22, 2026 in Canadian County District Court with assault and battery on a police officer, escape from detention, possession of controlled dangerous substance, and unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia.
Assistant District Attorney Bethany M. Ball alleges Alcaraz drove into Yukon police officer Clay Rush and dragged him with his car, then drove off after being lawfully detained by Rush who had conducted a traffic stop.
The defendant is further accused of having methamphetamine and a glass smoking pipe in his possession.
Alcaraz was arrested at 8:39 p.m. Dec. 17 at SH-66 (Main Street) and Cornwell Drive.
Sgt. Rush had observed a vehicle speeding southbound in the 600 block of Piedmont Road, with his radar indicating the car was traveling 66 mph in a 45-mph zone.
So, Rush stopped the vehicle in the 300 block of S Cornwell.
The driver – identified as Alcaraz – had a valid Arizona driver’s license but was unable to show he had valid insurance, according to a probable cause affidavit.
The Yukon police sergeant wrote traffic citations and advised Alcaraz to get a ride because his vehicle was being impounded. While speaking with Alcaraz, Rush observed a glass meth pipe in the center console.
“I asked Alain to hand me the pipe and he became agitated,” according to Sgt. Rush’s court-filed affidavit. “I requested another unit and Sgt. (Cooper) Finch arrived shortly after.
“Alain handed me the pipe and just as I asked if there was any meth, he stated, ‘I gotta go’ and put the vehicle in drive. As I grabbed Alain’s wrist, he accelerated quickly pulling me down the street a short distance.”
Due to heavy fog at the time, officers decided not to chase Alcaraz’s car.
Instead, Sgt. Rush gave a description of the fleeing vehicle to other units.
Shortly after, Maj. Zach Roberson and Sgt. Joey Rushing observed Alcaraz and the vehicle while dealing with a traffic issue at SH-66 and S Cornwell.
Alcaraz was arrested and a small amount of meth was found in his pocket. The pipe he had handed Rush was still at the base of the windshield where the officer had placed it.
A preliminary hearing conference for Alcaraz is set Wednesday, Jan. 7 before Canadian County Special Judge David H. Halley.
