Lewis Hawkins, a former Canadian County sheriff, died on Friday, according to reports.

Hawkins was Canadian County Sheriff for two decades before losing an election in 2008 to Randall Edwards.

Sheriff Chris West said Hawkins was elected in Canadian County in 1988, and he served five four-year terms. Hawkins was in office longer than any other sheriff in the county’s history, West said.
