Yukon is continuing its recent strong showing in terms of sales tax collections.

The Oklahoma Tax Commission in February distributed $2.46 million to the City of Yukon – a 23.8% increase from the $1.98 million posted in February 2021.

Sales tax collections were up 18.4% this January ($2.43 million) compared to Yukon’s January 2021 ($2.05 million) distribution.

“We’re excited about the increase and the good news but moving forward with the budget process that’s beginning in the coming weeks on a conservative basis,” Yukon City Manager Tammy Kretchmar said Feb. 14.

Yukon Mayor Shelli Selby was likewise pleased with the recent surge in sales tax revenues.

“I am just thrilled that this happens when people shop local,” Selby said.

The vast number of Yukon’s fellow municipalities across Canadian County also saw increases in February over revenues reported by OTC for January.

Only Calumet and El Reno saw a drop between the two reporting periods, although El Reno’s February sales tax revenues were significantly higher than those reported by the OTC in February 2021.

Canadian County also saw a sharp increase in sales tax collections this month, easily surpassing the $728,009 reported for January – and $579,411 in revenues posted the same time last year. This year’s county sales tax topped $785,491. Those revenues are dedicated by voter mandate to operations at Gary E. Miller Canadian County Children’s Justice Center.

Cumulatively, Canadian County cities in February posted revenue of $7.812 million – a figure that compared to January’s $6.651 million and the $6.175 million reported by the state tax commission in February 2021.

Other Canadian County cities posted the following sales tax revenues in February:

  • Calumet – $18,433

Canadian County also had a use tax showing this month, posting $214,412 – which contrasted with the $193,938 reported by OTC last month and February 2021’s $179,648.
